The House has passed the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act and the SPEED Act with bipartisan backing, authorizing $848 billion for defense priorities, including modernization, border security, and troop compensation. The SPEED Act aims to reduce acquisition timelines from over 800 days to approximately five months.
DOD to soon release data tagging, labeling guidance.
The Pentagon will soon issue formal guidance on data tagging and labeling to improve consistency and interoperability across its systems. This initiative aims to support zero-trust and data sharing efforts by creating standard schemas, conducting pilot programs, and delivering a usable framework within the next several months.
DISA pushes multi-partner cloud to prepare for next global conflict.
DISA is fast-tracking its “multi-partner environment” (MPE), a hybrid cloud framework designed to enable the DOD to share information securely and in real time with trusted allies and partners. This cloud capability is being developed specifically to ensure readiness for a future global conflict where rapid, secure collaboration across entities will be essential.

Congress ramps up push to arm consumer product regulators with AI tools.
A new Senate bill wants the Consumer Product Safety Commission to get an AI sidekick that can spot dangerous products, track injuries, and call out shady recalls faster than Batman chasing the Joker. Meanwhile, the FTC and DOC would dive into blockchain and digital tokens to see if they can be used to outsmart fraudsters—basically trying to make consumer safety as high-tech as a Marvel movie crossover.
DOI moves ahead with IT consolidation plan across bureaus.
The DOI is launching a centralized IT support overhaul: instead of multiple bureau-specific helpdesks, employees will now use a single, department-wide helpdesk for Tier 1 and Tier 2 issues, with in-person support based on geographic location, not bureau affiliation. This shakeup follows a broader push to streamline administrative functions and is likely to lead to hundreds of positions being restructured or eliminated.
