The Army’s new principal cyber advisor wants to shift AI-enabled cyber tools from enterprise-level experiments to operational edge deployment. He says offensive and defensive units need smarter automation—like malicious code detection—with humans still in the loop.

DARPA to brief industry on low-power battlefield machine learning.

On August 26 DARPA will brief industry on its new Mapping Machine Learning to Physics (ML2P) program, which aims to develop energy-efficient AI systems for austere battlefield environments. Traditional machine learning models consume excessive power—often incompatible with battery- and generator-based field operations.

DNI plans to cut staff by 50%.

DNI Gabbard has unveiled a sweeping plan—dubbed "ODNI 2.0"—to reduce her agency’s staff by over 40%, eliminate redundant offices like the Foreign Malign Influence Center and the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center, and save more than $700 million annually.

The USCG has established a new Program Executive Office (PEO) to accelerate the adoption of robotics and autonomous technologies, including counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS). As part of its Force Design 2028 modernization blueprint, the office will oversee the full lifecycle of capability development—from requirements and acquisition to integration and sustainment.

IRS starts gathering feedback on possible Direct File alternatives.

The IRS has launched a congressionally mandated survey to gather public feedback on its free Direct File tax platform and possible alternatives, as lawmakers consider whether tax filing should be handled by a government-run service or private companies. TREAS will use the results to report to Congress by October, while critics argue Direct File is costly and competes with private software, despite growing taxpayer usage and favorable reviews.
