DISA eyes ‘aggressive’ goal of automating 75% of cyber capabilities.
As DISA prepares for the looming threat of China, the agency set an ambitious goal of having 75 percent of its administrative-like cybersecurity capabilities completely automated by AI. Cyber director Hermann explained that DISA is making strides toward this goal by streamlining data into a collective space where it was created, instead of in separate silos. The term for this is “lake architecture.” Read more
DOD chief of records says AI can use 'contextual understanding' to declassify records.
The chief of the records and declassification division at the DOD's WHS, said a research study validated a proof of concept that demonstrates the capability of AI/ML models to manage and declassify records using contextual understanding models. DoD’s declassification study will eventually result in a “playbook” for using technologies to support declassification and record management decisions in government. Read more
DARPA’s newest X-plane receives official designation.
DARPA has assigned the designation XRQ-73 to its Series Hybrid Electric Propulsion Aircraft Demonstration, or SHEPARD, hybrid electric unmanned aircraft system. Read more

When talking about a so-called "policy shift" needed across the government on the standard for public data in the AI era, the department’s chief data officer said there’s much that needs to be completed regarding spelling out “standards of what AI-ready data really means.” To that end, the AI and Open Government Data Assets Working Group is soliciting input on potential guidelines for AI-ready government data through a RFI. USSPACECOM observes 'no immediate threats' after Russian satellite breaks up in low orbit.
A Russian satellite in low Earth orbit broke up earlier this week, creating more than 100 pieces of trackable junk and briefly causing ISS crew to take shelter. USSPACECOM said in a statement that it had "observed no immediate threats and is continuing to conduct routine conjunction assessments to support the safety and sustainability of the space domain." The 2016 numbers exceeded the previous debate audience record of 80.6 million set in 1980 when President Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan debated for the first and only time.
