IRS launches push to clean up its communications.

The IRS is cleaning up the notices it sends to taxpayers as part of what the agency has dubbed the Simple Notice Initiative. By next year’s tax season, the IRS wants to redesign up to 200 of the most common notices for individual taxpayers, which make up about 90% of the total volume of notices sent to individuals. NTIA wants “the whole lifecycle of accountability” to assess AI systems.

The head of the NTIA said his agency is looking at how to create an auditing process to hold AI systems accountable, as part of an effort to promote safe and ethical uses of the emerging technologies. Administrator Alan Davidson teased the release of an AI report after receiving 1,400 comments in an April public feedback solicitation. Read more
