DOD obligates $148.5B of OBBBA funds before FY26 ends.
DOD obligated $148.5B—or 97.5%—of its $152.4B in OBBBA funding before FY26 closed, which the comptroller called a record high. The USN and USAF each hit 99.2%, the Army reached 98.1%, and other components reached 94.9%. DOD held some money back for OSC, DIU, and the Economic Defense Unit to keep FY27 options open.
Pentagon to pick new base site by June 2027.
The Pentagon aims to pick a site for its new military base by June 2027. Four factors matter most: The new site must comprise 100,000 to 250,000 acres, provide housing for 15,000 to 25,000 troops, include off-grid power with small modular reactors, and offer opportunities for public-private partnerships.
Navy transitions 10 technology pilots to programs of record.
The Navy CTO says 10 technology pilots have moved into enterprise services or programs of record as the USN retires outdated IT. The service ran about 25 pilots in 2025 and has dozens going in 2026, some funded by private companies. Project Dynamis is now a USMC command-and-control program of record.
Pentagon to space startups: Prove it works before you pitch it.
At the MilSat Symposium, three Pentagon officials gave space startups a consistent message: arrive with working technology, not just ideas. The SDA Director said SBIR and STTR awards have produced only a handful of real successes in his three decades of experience, though a modest “C+, B-” demonstration on one or two satellites can be enough to win a tranche.

GSA OIG finds sensitive data exposed agency-wide on Google Drive.
GSA's OIG found 116 files containing sensitive information accessible to agency employees and contractors through Google Drive, including Social Security numbers, vendor pricing, and building security plans. Former Census directors warn proposed 2030 residence rule could undermine count accuracy.
In a recent comment letter, former Census Bureau directors raised concerns about the DOC’s proposed residence criteria for the 2030 Census.
