FORTRESS America program office stands up with five pillars.
A Pentagon memo was issued directing eight senior officials to begin operationalizing FORTRESS America, Hegseth's homeland defense initiative. The program covers five pillars: space and spectrum resilience, installation hardening, energy independence, supply chain resilience, and strategic defense reserves. Every major military installation in America is expected to generate its own power, independent of the civilian grid.
DOW Golden Age of Science: Three strategic plans for defense research modernization.
DOD unveiled a set of initiatives to advance POTUS’ Golden Age of American Science vision, focused on three areas: modernizing how it supports and evaluates scientific research, bringing new talent to critical defense science challenges, and strengthening partnerships between discovery, innovation, and national defense.
DOD bets $1.5B on Wolfspeed to build a domestic silicon carbide supply chain.
The DOD’s Office of Strategic Capital issued a $1.5 billion conditional loan commitment to Wolfspeed, a US manufacturer of silicon carbide wafers and gallium nitride semiconductors. These wide bandgap materials are used in directed energy weapons, drones, electronic warfare, radars, and missile defense systems. The loan, combined with private capital, is designed to onshore semiconductor production and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

Pentagon pilots ACME to let AI handle classification decisions for the first time.
Deputy Secretary Steve Feinberg signed a memo launching a six-month pilot of ACME, the Air Force's Automated Classification Management Environment, to overhaul how DOD classifies sensitive information. If successful, ACME would become the single authoritative reference for all original classification decisions, a role historically reserved for human officials.
Iran war forces Air Force to make point defense a core mission.
Operation Epic Fury changed the math on air base defense. Iranian attacks on Prince Sultan Air Base and the destruction of the CAOC at Al Udeid prompted USAF to elevate point defense to a core mission at its Corona summit. The service is now creating a dedicated career field, a new point defense weapon system program element, and a potential senior portfolio acquisition executive to consolidate counter-drone buys.

Cantwell's frontier AI framework: Six pillars, NIST standards, and a red phone for China.
Sen. Maria Cantwell unveiled a six-part frontier AI governance framework calling on NIST to develop risk-based safety standards for AI systems capable of catastrophic harm. The framework requires independent audits, continuous testing, incident reporting, and human oversight in employment, healthcare, and credit decisions. In the most striking proposal, Cantwell wants a secure US-China communication channel, similar to the Cold War hotline, specifically for AI incidents and system-control failures.

TRIVIA ANSWER ⭐️
B. False Claims Act. Congress enacted the False Claims Act in 1863 after unscrupulous Civil War suppliers were accused of selling the Union defective weapons, unhealthy horses, spoiled provisions, and other substandard goods. Nicknamed “Lincoln's Law,” it allowed private citizens to sue those defrauding the government—a qui tam provision that remains a powerful federal antifraud tool today. (Source)
