The Pentagon is pushing defense contractors to dramatically accelerate weapons production timelines, citing stockpile shortfalls exposed by the Iran war and growing demand from allied nations. Deputy SecDef told industry that the department will prioritize contracts with companies that can demonstrate surge capacity and faster delivery. Firms that can't keep pace risk losing future business to those who can.
No money, no Golden Dome: General warns funding gaps could kill the missile defense initiative.
A senior general warned that Golden Dome is entirely contingent on sustained congressional funding, and without it the program is little more than a concept. The warning comes as the FY27 reconciliation package remains in flux and the $67 billion supplemental request faces an uncertain path through the Senate. Golden Dome requires coordinated investment across space sensors, ground interceptors, and command and control over multiple years.
Space lasers: US officials warn of adversary threats while eyeing directed energy opportunities in orbit.
US officials are increasingly focused on the threat of laser weapons in space, with China and Russia both developing directed energy systems capable of blinding or disabling satellites. At the same time, the Pentagon sees an opportunity to field its own space-based laser capabilities for both defensive and offensive purposes. No specific program has been announced, but officials say the conversation has moved from theoretical to urgent.

EPA cyber authority: New Senate bill targets water system vulnerabilities with expanded federal oversight.
A new Senate bill would give the EPA expanded authority to set and enforce cybersecurity standards across US water and wastewater systems, which have faced a growing number of foreign cyberattacks. The legislation would require systems serving more than 3,300 people to conduct regular risk assessments and implement minimum cybersecurity controls.

Italian technology group Reply acquired FedTec, a US-based federal IT and digital transformation firm with clients across civilian and defense agencies. The deal gives Reply a stronger foothold in the US federal market, adding FedTec's cloud, cybersecurity, and AI capabilities to its existing portfolio. Terms were not disclosed.
Joby Aviation acquires Resonant Sciences in a $500M defense technology deal.
Joby Aviation signed a definitive agreement to acquire Resonant Sciences for approximately $500 million. Resonant brings RF sensing, low-observability systems, classified capabilities, and more than $100 million in trailing twelve-month revenue with 40% year-over-year growth. Upon closing, Resonant will become Joby's dedicated defense business while Joby's commercial electric air taxi operation stays separate.
