The Pentagon is under mounting pressure to obligate $152B in reconciliation funding before October 1 or face reductions. With only a fraction committed so far, acquisition teams must accelerate execution while maintaining compliance.
House panel backs $55.5B Space Force budget with caveats.
The HAC approved $55.5B for the USSF—most of it for R&D and procurement, while warning that cost overruns and schedule slips are still dragging programs down. Lawmakers praised progress but pushed for less classification, more competition, and actual funding for “dynamic space operations,” which somehow didn’t make the cut.
Golden Dome passes first test of its missile shield.
The Pentagon completed its first major test of the Golden Dome missile defense system, with SecDef calling it "real, powerful and on track." The system, designed to intercept threats including hypersonic missiles and space-launched weapons, is targeted for completion by end of POTUS’ term.

FEMA is opening over $1.5B across seven grant programs to help state, local, and tribal entities strengthen security and resilience against terrorism. Major funding flows through HSGP and nonprofit security grants, with applications due July 24.
NASA shifts Artemis III to risk‑reduction mission before 2028 landing.
NASA now plans to launch Artemis III next year as a full‑scale test run. No lunar landing, just proving out Blue Origin and SpaceX landers in orbit. The agency says the shake‑up cuts risk ahead of a 2028 surface return, keeps momentum after Artemis II’s success, and nudges the U.S. closer to a sustained lunar presence.
FAA is writing mandates, but federal coordination systems can’t keep up.

Qualcomm said it would buy AI startup Modular in an all-stock deal valued at nearly $4 billion, gaining access to software that runs AI models across chips without having to write code for each processor. Buying Modular pits Qualcomm against CUDA, the software platform that has helped underpin Nvidia's AI dominance by tying millions of developers to the $5 trillion company's chips.
