Space Force orders 21 new national security space launches: 11 to ULA, 10 to SpaceX.

The Space Systems Command announced 21 launch missions have been assigned to United Launch Alliance and SpaceX as part of the National Security Space Launch Phase 2 contract the companies won in 2020. Read more.

ODNI, Pentagon reveal that FY23 intelligence budget was nearly $100B.

ODNI has revealed that Congress provided $71.7B for the National Intelligence Program; additionally, the DOD said $27.9B had been appropriated for the Military Intelligence Program, totaling $99.6B. For comparison, in FY22, the combined total was $89.8B. Read more

OPM head previews coming cyber and IT hiring flexibilities.

An OPM proposal meant to help agencies more easily hire and pay competitive wages to the government’s tech and cyber workplace will be announced within days. It’s all very exciting and very vague'; the OPM director didn’t lay out many details about what to expect from the proposal other than the agency’s ideas “will need the partnership of Congress” and agencies “for it to be as far-reaching as we would like it to be.” Read more.

VA launches tech sprint for health care innovation required by AI executive order.

Aiming to reduce healthcare worker burnout, the VA has launched a $1M AI tech competition, part of a broader effort required by the White House newly-released executive order on artificial intelligence. The VA called for proposals that address one or both of its focus areas: speech-to-text solutions for appointments and document processing to more seamlessly integrate an individual’s non-VA medical records into their VA record. Despite more people getting into cyber, the workforce gap keeps growing.

The size of the global cybersecurity workforce has reached a new peak of 5.5M people, a 9% increase from 2022. The gap between the number of cybersecurity professionals needed and the supply of qualified personnel grew by nearly 13%, and 4M new workers would be needed to close it. Read more
