HHS to shutter several agencies and form new agencies.

​The HHS is undergoing a significant restructuring; in addition to laying off 10,000 workers, it is closing the HRSA and SAMSHSA. These agencies will be consolidated into a new entity called the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA). SAMOSA Act returns to tackle federal software inefficiencies.

The SAMOSA Act is back, aiming to clean up federal software spending by mandating inventories, enterprise licensing, and modernization strategies. The House previously passed the SAMOSA Act, but the bill didn’t make it through the Senate. Read more

Federal CIO directs agencies to inventory software for efficiency.

Aiming to trim the fat from federal IT spending, the Federal CIO has ordered agencies to compile comprehensive software inventories. The goal is to identify redundant applications and consolidate contracts to achieve cost savings. The work is very much related to what the SAMOSA Act (described above ) aims to achieve. Read more
