U.S. needs to “start from scratch” to rewrite Foreign Military Sales process, says CENTCOM chief.

Kurilla said the current process generally involves four “levers.” The Pentagon’s own system needs reform, and the DOS is generally fairly quick to do their diplomatic due diligence. Congress can slow things down if lawmakers decide they want to hold up a sale for “whatever reason.” But the biggest bottleneck is the DIB, which is under-investing in its own production lines and unable to keep up with demand.

Feds from IRS agents to refugee officers are deploying to assist ICE conduct raids.

Federal agencies beyond traditional immigration authorities—including TSA Federal Air Marshals, USCIS refugee officers, CBP personnel, and approximately 250 IRS Criminal Investigation agents—are being redeployed on multi-month details to assist ICE during enforcement raids at workplaces, farms, nightclubs, residential areas, and federal buildings.

IRS isn’t checking the performance of its identity proofing vendor.

The IRS currently relies solely on ID.me—without independent quality checks—to verify taxpayer identities for sensitive online services, using biometric selfies and ID scans, according to a recent GAO report. It lacks measurable performance objectives, doesn't independently evaluate vendor results or share performance data internally, and hasn’t listed ID.me’s AI tools in its AI inventory, creating transparency and oversight gaps.

Interior exploring AI use to address probate backlog in tribal communities.

The DOI is exploring AI tools to address a backlog of 48,000 tribal probate cases caused by complex land fractionation. Potential uses include tracking files, automating data entry, cross-referencing records, and verifying document completeness.
