CENTCOM has revealed that US forces seized “lethal, Iranian-supplied” arms heading to the militant group, including missile components. Two Navy SEALs, however, remain missing after the Jan. 11 operation. Read more
SDA awards $2.55B to 3 companies for Tranche 2 satellites.
L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, and Sierra Space will build 18 satellites each for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture program. Each company will build 16 missile warning and tracking satellites to detect ballistic and hypersonic missiles, and two “preliminary fire control” satellites, which track hypersonic missiles in greater detail and carry more sophisticated infrared sensors to collect data to feed to interceptors that can shoot down missiles. The DOD is making progress on its innovative tech, but it’s got a lot left to do according to a new report from the Atlantic Council’s Commission on Defense Innovation Adoption, which acknowledged broader, strategic matters that “will take time to reach full implementation.” Read more

For VOA, generative AI is just causing trouble for journalists.
Voice of America (VOA) is dealing with backlash over its newsroom guidance on the use of generative AI to voice news reports. Its journalists are pushing back on leadership’s AI policy regarding “synthetic voices." “We are…concerned that guidance that permits AI to voice news reports and other products, even with the caveat that ‘a human being retains full control over the journalistic content,’ will allow for VOA to begin to replace on-air journalists with AI.” Read more

Airbus Helicopters has agreed to acquire Aerovel in a deal aimed at expanding the Airbus subsidiary’s portfolio of tactical unmanned aerial system offerings. The deal will include Aerovel’s Flexrotor vertical takeoff and landing UAS designed to support land and sea-based intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance missions. Iron Mountain has officially purchased Regency Technologies to expand its capabilities in IT asset lifecycle management and disposition. “This is a strategic move that will propel us to the next frontier in Asset Lifecycle Management," said Iron Mountain's EVP and GM of asset lifecycle management.
