US destroyer, Super Hornet splash red Sea attack drones and missiles.

A U.S. guided-missile destroyer and fighters from aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) interdicted a dozen suicide drones and anti-ship missiles on Tuesday. Houthi forces fired the 12 attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land-attack cruise missiles from Yemen. Read more

Agencies off the hook for spending cuts - for a few months.

According to OMB, the requirement to reduce discretionary spending under the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) wouldn’t take effect until “after full-year appropriations are enacted, or April 30, whichever comes first,” meaning agencies don’t have to worry about a 1% sequestration on discretionary funds kicking in for a few more months. FDA, CISA must update cyber agreement to prevent medical device hacking.

The FDA and CISA need to update cyber agreements for medical devices, according to a GAO watchdog, which said that medical devices are not commonly hacked but still called them “a source of cybersecurity concern warranting significant attention.” Read more

VA plans facial recognition pilot for health care employees to speed service up.

VA Chief Information Security Officer Lynette Sherrill said the department plans on piloting facial recognition tools next year at VA hospitals, particularly for frontline clinicians working in ICUs. The pilot, if successful, would give VA healthcare employees an alternative to using their Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards to securely log onto the department’s network. Read more

Report: ULA gets buyout bids from Blue Origin, Cerberus.

Blue Origin and private equity firm Cerebus have made bids for United Launch Alliance, a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Some biz gossip also says that Textron is also interested. Some estimates guess that ULA could be worth between $2-3 billion. Cha-ching! Read more

AAR announces agreement to acquire Triumph Group’s Product Support business.

AAR Corp., a provider of aviation services to commercial and government operators, MROs, and OEMs, has entered into a definitive agreement with Triumph Group to purchase Triumph Product Support for $725M in cash. Read more.
