VETERAN STORIES

What you may be getting wrong about veterans.

As of 2018, less than 10% of adults in the U.S. were veterans, according to a 2021 report from the Pew Research Center. The number of living veterans is only going to decrease, the same report said. While the population dwindles, veterans continue to play an outsized role in innumerable facets of American society, from pop culture to politics. And perhaps it’s because of that dwindling population, and because fewer Americans actually know a military veteran, that many misconceptions persist about who veterans are. Read this Task & Purposes story to see what those misconceptions are. Read more

Library of Congress Veteran History Project.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress collects, preserves and makes accessible the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans who served in World War I through more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand what they saw, did and felt during their service. Read more

NO BOUNDARIES

A nonprofit turning disability into abilities for our heroes.

If you are looking for a Veteran organization to support you should consider No Boundaries. Started by Molly Raymond after a car crash left her with a Traumatic Brain Injury, The No Boundaries program promotes self-esteem, pride, and a sense of accomplishment for combat wounded service men and women as they expand their independence and overcome challenges once thought insurmountable.

No Boundaries sends wounded veterans on trips that allow them to experience various challenging activities in scenic outdoor settings.  The challenges and accomplishments on these trips help wounded veterans understand that their disabilities may not be as limiting as they once thought when participating in many of life’s available activities.  Living together under one roof for 6 days, these heroes also benefit from group socialization, camaraderie, teamwork, and new life-long friendships with fellow veterans who are in the same situation and experience the same challenges in life.  The veterans and No Boundaries hosts become like family on these trips. Donate Now
